Victims may have suffered serious health consequences

Those who were exposed to the water either by living or working at the base  were put at risk  and may have suffered serious health consequences.

Victims exposed to contaminated water at the miliary base may be eligible for compensation if they qualify by meeting certain criteria set by law.

Who Qualifies for Compensation?

Active-duty personnel, Reserve, and National Guard members qualify for compensation. In addition, there are three main criteria to qualify for benefits:

  • You served at Camp Lejeune or MCAS New River between August 1953 and December 1987 for a total of at least 30 days.
  • You were diagnosed with one or more of the 15 qualifying illnesses listed above, which resulted from water contamination.
  • You did not receive a dishonorable discharge upon separation from the U.S. military.

You’ll also need to show documentation of your illness, among other evidence.

In 1982, it was discovered that specific volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) in the drinking water at Camp Lejeune, NC.
